Handmade Double Oak Sledge Swing – Personalised Two-Seater Garden Swing
Following the popularity of my original single-seater Sledge Swing – and lots of requests for a larger version that could be enjoyed by two – I created this substantial double-seated oak swing.
Handcrafted from solid FSC-certified European oak, it measures approximately 90cm x 43cm (35.4 x 17 inches) and is designed to comfortably accommodate two people.
This isn’t simply a longer version of a conventional plank swing. It has a substantial framed and slatted construction, traditional joinery and a gently angled seat, creating a beautiful piece of garden furniture that is made to be enjoyed for years.
FREE PERSONALISED ENGRAVING
Personalisation on one or two slats is included in the price.
Add names, a date, family name, special message or wording of your choice. The design is deep V-cut CNC engraved directly into the oak, rather than laser marked or printed, giving the engraving real depth and character.
Simple decorative designs such as hearts, leaves and stars can also be incorporated. If you have something particular in mind, just get in touch.
SUBSTANTIAL TRADITIONAL CONSTRUCTION
The main supporting cradle is made from approximately 50mm (2”) square solid oak, with large traditional mortise-and-tenon cross-beam joints.
Individual 20mm (¾”) solid oak slats form the seat and are invisibly joined into the supporting cradle using mortise-and-tenon joints.
The seat itself is set at a gentle 6-degree angle, helping create a comfortable and secure seating position.
The result is a genuinely substantial swing with the weight, strength and character you’d expect from handmade solid-oak construction.
THREE-ROPE DESIGN
The swing is supplied with three lengths of heavy-duty 22mm polyhemp rope.
The two outer ropes are the main suspension ropes and support the swing. The third centre rope provides an additional handhold and support between the two seating positions, giving each person something comfortable and secure to hold.
The centre rope does not support the weight of the swing and can easily be removed if you prefer the cleaner appearance of a traditional two-rope setup.
Standard rope length is 4m (13ft) per rope, with longer lengths available to suit higher branches or mounting points.
THREE HEAVY-DUTY ROPE ADJUSTERS INCLUDED FREE
Every swing also includes three solid rope-adjusting blocks at no extra charge.
These make it much easier to alter the finished hanging height and level the swing accurately without repeatedly retying knots.
FSC-CERTIFIED EUROPEAN OAK
I make each swing from FSC-certified European oak, sourced from responsibly managed forests.
Oak is naturally strong and durable, as well as having beautiful variations in colour and grain. Because every piece of timber is different, no two swings will ever look exactly alike.
FOUR-COAT TUNG OIL FINISH
Each swing receives four coats of premium Tung Oil, enhancing the natural colour and grain of the oak while providing additional protection for outdoor use.
As with all natural timber products kept outdoors, occasional cleaning and re-oiling is recommended to maintain the finish and keep your swing looking its best.
